Oscar Nyström is a lighting designer based between Saint-Tropez and Stockholm. Trained in Europe’s opera houses and at City of Westminster College in London, he founded his practice in Saint-Tropez in 1999. His work spans palaces, hotels, private residences, gardens and yachts in more than twenty countries, from La Mamounia and Royal Mansour to Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme.

He grew up in La Garde-Freinet above Saint-Tropez, began in stage lighting in 1989 in Europe’s opera houses, graduated from City of Westminster College in London in 1992 and founded his own practice in Saint-Tropez in 1999. Since 1991 he has lit more than 300 private residences and gardens, as well as palaces and hotels such as La Mamounia and Royal Mansour in Marrakech, Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, Le Grand Contrôle at the Château de Versailles and Château de la Messardière. His work includes the Winter Garden at Stockholm’s Grand Hôtel, whose lighting was honoured with an award after its 2017–2018 renovation, the 34-metre sloop Spirit 111 and JNcQUOI Comporta in Portugal. His approach: light only what deserves to be seen, conceal the source, and hand over scenes that follow the hour and the season.
